The EMC National Youth Committee (NYC) seeks to provide encouragement, support, and resources to enhance and strengthen the youth ministry of EMC local churches in Canada.
Gerald Reimer, Conference Youth Minister, is the EMC national office staff person who relates to this Committee. He is available to speak at retreats or youth events and can assist youth leaders planning short-term mission trips or youth looking to be involved in short-term mission opportunities.
The NYC, through the Board of Church Ministries, sponsors two national events: Abundant Springs and TRU (a retreat for youth leaders that takes place in fall on even-numbered years).
The Conference also provides moral and spiritual support to EMC post-secondary students through the Inter-Mennonite Chaplaincy Association (at University of Manitoba) and through campus visitation.
Regional youth events are encouraged (financial assistance is available); this can happen in part through the youth event held at the EMC Annual Convention.
Growing Together as Followers of Jesus Christ!
Abundant Springs is a discipleship weekend for youth that takes place on the May long-weekend on odd-numbered years. The next event takes place on May 17-20, 2013. Check out the Abundant Springs website!
Train, Refresh, Unite!
TRU is a retreat for EMC Youth Leaders that takes place in October on even-numbered years! The next event takes place on October 17-19, 2014.
Did you know that, on average, 300 EMC students are attending a college or university somewhere in Canada or Internationally?
As a vital part of the EMC family, we desire to maintain contact with these students from our churches, wherever and whatever they are studying.
With that in mind, we request some contact info from you so that we can be in touch with you or your students. If you have concerns about privacy issues, we have done the research and produced a document that legally allows your students to pass on this information.
For those of you who are studying at Steinbach Bible College, our conference affiliated school, you are invited to apply for the Student Assistance Program. To qualify for this token bursary, you must be a member of an EMC church, and must be studying full-time at SBC, the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester or more.
